Did Charlie Kirk believe Israel starved Palestinians in Gaza?

No—Charlie Kirk did not believe Israel starved Palestinians in Gaza. In fact, he called the accusation a “propaganda campaign” designed to manipulate Western sympathy and turn it against Israel.

“This weekend, there was an all-out propaganda campaign trying to make it seem as if Israel is intentionally starving the people of Gaza,” he said on his show in July 2025. “I hate being lied to, especially by the media networks.”

Food by the numbers

At the time of Charlie’s remarks, reports of a “famine” in Gaza were dominating headlines. It had become a full-blown narrative blaming Israel for deliberately starving Gazans.

But the facts told a different story. The Israel Defense Forces were sending an average of 100 food trucks into Gaza each day through the Kerem Shalom crossing—an unprecedented effort, as it is virtually unheard of in wartime for a country to feed its enemies while actively defending itself. Once the supplies crossed into Gaza, it was up to UN agencies to distribute them—and often, they didn’t. By August 2025, video evidence showed nearly 950 trucks, containing roughly 2,500 tons of food, sitting idle on the Gaza side of the crossing.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization established under the Trump administration, managed to deliver around 100 million meals to Gazans by mid-2025—averaging 41 truckloads a day carrying more than two million meals. At one point, the GHF was publicly pleading with the UN to let it deliver the food the UN was holding back. But the UN—which maintains close ties to Hamas—was actively obstructing aid efforts while pressuring humanitarian groups not to cooperate with the GHF.

Still, the “famine” narrative persisted. International media outlets ran sensational headlines and recycled false imagery—using photos of deformed children and claiming they were starving, or staging scenes of people holding empty plates. The truth didn’t matter; only the narrative did. And for Charlie Kirk, that was exactly the point: the famine story was pure propaganda.

“It’s just such a lie, and it’s creating so much hysteria here in the United States,” he said. “And just so we are clear, again: this is the only way that Hamas can ‘survive’ the war, is through a narrative war where they win sentimentality in the West,” he said. “So they are willing to have their people starve and they’re willing to invoke famine so that they can win points in the West and then blame it on Israel.”

Because Charlie always sought moral clarity in the conflict, he saw the difference between the two sides for what it was. Israel—the only military in the world that warns enemy civilians before airstrikes—wasn’t capable of deliberately starving a population. Hamas, on the other hand, openly targets Israeli civilians and hides behind Gazan women and children. To Charlie, it was obvious which side would be willing to starve its own people if it meant winning the propaganda war.

“Hamas would want the people of Gaza to starve,” he explained. “Number one, they don’t care about their own people. They’re just cannon fodder for their radical Islamic aims. But secondly, if they can starve their people, then they can get a media narrative in the West to try to end the … war. So, it’s a circuitous way. It is a loophole way for them to use their own kids to starve and blame the Israelis for the starvation to get the war against the terrorists to stop.”

How the ‘famine’ narrative started

On August 22, 2025, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC)—a group created by the United Nations to assess hunger crises—declared that Gaza was experiencing a famine.

To do so, the IPC quietly revised its own famine standards. Typically, the IPC assesses whether there is a famine by measuring the height and weight of children in an affected area. If 30% of children are found to be suffering from acute malnutrition, the IPC declares it a famine.

But in its July 29th report on Gaza, the IPC instead measured children’s mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), a metric considered far less accurate. The IPC also halved its acute malnutrition metric from 30% to 15%.

The group was then able to declare a famine after determining that in Gaza City, 16.5% of children were malnourished based on MUAC. In Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, the two other cities studied by the IPC, the number was just 8%.

Legacy media outlets cited the IPC’s conclusion to accuse Israel of “starving” Gazans, and often deliberately avoided reporting on food distribution. The BBC, for example, sent out an internal memo to its staff stating that “the argument over how much aid has crossed into Gaza is irrelevant” and that reporters should say the GHF’s distribution system “doesn’t work.”

‘Famine’ by the numbers

But Hamas’s own numbers—which are usually grossly exaggerated—show there was never a famine.

The IPC’s methodology estimates that in a “Phase 5” famine, approximately two people per 10,000 die each day from hunger-related causes, while a “Phase 4” emergency assumes one death per 10,000 per day.

Based on the IPC’s report, which classified roughly 500,000 Gazans in Phase 5 and 1.07 million in Phase 4, those figures would imply more than 10,000 famine-related deaths between August 22 and October 7. However, Hamas reported just 461 deaths from malnutrition during that period—a 95 percent shortfall compared to projections, and far below famine standards.

And although the IPC declared a famine in August 2025, a World Health Organization (WHO) official revealed that discussions about accusing Israel of perpetrating a famine in Gaza started as early as December 2023—just two months after the Hamas massacre of Israelis.

Dr. Michel Thieren, the WHO’s representative to Israel, said that as early as October 8, 2023—the day after Hamas slaughtered more than 1,200 Israelis—his professional circles had already decided Israel was to blame. That December, at a Geneva meeting involving UN and WHO officials, Thieren said the discussion had shifted to how to “scientifically demonstrate” a famine in Gaza.

“At the very end of the meeting – I won’t say exactly where, and it wasn’t necessarily at the WHO, rest assured – there was a gathering of experts who asked the question quite forcefully. I was there, and I was absolutely stunned. What they were saying, essentially, was that one should try to find a term that could be used to exert pressure. So yes, I was very shocked by that,” Thieren said.

“So when these people were saying it would be necessary to demonstrate famine, the guilt had already been assigned [to Israel],” he added. “When we talk about genocide, the WHO never went there, others did – but very early, these people pronounced these two terms [genocide and famine], they were thrown out right from the start. So the crimes were already predetermined, and then the organizations tried to demonstrate them. And for me, that is not normal at all.”

Charlie didn’t fall for mainstream media or Hamas reports about the “Gaza famine.” Israel, he knew, was fighting a war against terror; Hamas was fighting a war of perception. And while the world’s cameras focused on Gaza, Charlie saw the real battle taking place in the hearts and minds of Westerners willing to believe the lie.
